the bangalow
barn.

an accidental sanctuary in the byron hinterland — hand-built from old horse stables, lived in slowly, and lent to anyone who needs to stop.

a few notes before you stay

this is not a hotel. it's a barn that became a home, that became a quiet sort of refuge — for couples on the long way back to each other, and for families remembering how to be still.

the barn
was never
a plan.

after my husband died, the rooms grew quiet and the garden grew loud. for a long time i didn't know what to do with the space — only that i couldn't fill it with grief and call it living.

so we kept building. the old horse stables became a barn, the barn became a home, and the home became — almost by accident, by drift and instinct and a great many hours laying brick and sanding wood — somewhere other people came to stay.

every piece here was found, restored, or made by hand. the breeze-block walls. the terracotta urns by the door. the suspended fireplace that rotates with the light. the two claw-foot tubs in the open air. nothing was bought to fill a space; everything earned its place.

and beside me through all of it: bentley the rotti and diesel the kelpie cross. they were my rock when nothing else held. they made the rule that's stayed since — dogs welcome, people tolerated.

i don't run an airbnb. i keep a sanctuary, and i lend it to people who — like me, once — need somewhere soft to land.

the magnesium pool

a heated magnesium pool, mineral-soft on the skin — kept cool through summer, toasty come winter. swim at first light, or sink in once the paddocks have fallen quiet.

the baths

two vintage claw-foot tubs in the open air — one open to the stars, one under cover to watch the cows in the paddock next door. one hot, one cold; steam in the trees.
